Social Media is like a wild fire spreading fast, deep and wide! One viral post can make or break a person, or even a corporation. 94% of recruiters use LinkedIn to vet job candidates. Is your online presence helping or hindering your professional life? How can you leverage the power of social media in your job search and career development?

In this talk, Alexandra will share 4 online Best Practices including:

  • Do's and don'ts using social media in your job search
  • What's out there, is out there! How to do damage control?
  • Develop your compelling professional brand and portfolios
  • Strategies that get recruiters to contact you

Shebia will share 5 Useful Tips for your LinkedIn Makeover including:

  • Craft an outstanding LinkedIn Profile and a responsive network
  • Hack into the minds of recruiters
  • Outsmart the bots with keywords
  • Stalk and explore – people, companies, job opportunities, career paths.

Of course, an important aspect to your online profile is a professional looking picture of yourself. To assist you with this, there will be a photographer at hand who will be taking headshots for a $20 fee to be paid in cash. The photographer will be available from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. The image file will be later emailed to you. Just make sure you have a nice shirt/blouse and are cleanly shaven. This will help you attach great looking photographs to your social network account profiles.

We will then go to the Pub at BCIT for drinks and yet more networking.
